Battle at the Kruger
3-4 SESSIONS (30 Hours)
This is simply a fun piece playing with Asian traditional tattoos and their symbolism but placing it within an African context (this becomes the story of survival and migration of the Zebra). Besides Protea flowers and lions, I don’t think I see enough tattoo depictions of our variety of flora and fauna on this beautiful continent.
Frog
2 SESSIONS (15 Hours)
This piece depicts the transformation of a frog from a tadpole embryo to a froglet. This design is about metamorphosis, and much in the same way; the koi tattoos symbolise resilience and the determination to overcome obstacles. The journey of the frog from frogspawn to tadpole to froglet and fully grown frog resembles a journey of change through perseverance.
Dino-Rider T-Rex
1 SESSION (10 Hours)
Also an unused, un-homed, un-loved design, this is based on the animated series Dino-Riders that first aired in the 80s, Only 14 episodes were ever produced on VHS for the US – talk about niche!
Ozzy Bat
1 SESSION (10 Hours)
This tattoo is simply a fun representation of the infamous incident in 1982 when Ozzy Osbourne bit the head off of a live bat on stage during a concert – apparently, this was completely by accident due to the fact that Ozzy assumed it was a plastic bat. The wording “Is he alive or dead?” simply plays on the lyrics of Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man,” and the question of whether or not Ozzy in his later years is still altogether mentally “with us” due to his Rock ’n Roll lifestyle during Black Sabbath’s heyday.
Hollywood Barbie
1 SESSION (5 Hours)
This was my favourite Barbie gifted to me by my grandparents as a young girl after they visited the States. She had this beautiful long hair, and it came with a pink spray and star stencil you could use to spray stars on her hair.
Wolf
2 SESSIONS (15 Hours)
This is an unused design and was my first concept for a client that wanted a wolf tattoo. Unfortunately, this was not the idea he had in mind, and now I’m sitting on a radioactive wolf without a home.
Barbie 1.0
1 SESSION (5 Hours)
This is the original Barbie manufactured by Mattel Inc. and launched in 1959. Originally based on a German ‘Bild Lilli’ fashion doll (which itself was based on a comic strip character ‘Lilli’, designed for the German tabloid newspaper ‘Bild’), its creators Mattel went on to sell over a billion Barbie dolls, Barbie (and her best male friend Ken) went on to become two of the world’s most popular dolls.

Morticia Addams
This design is my take on Morticia Addams (as played by the ever-beautiful Anjelica Houston), the fictional matriarch of the Addams Family multimedia franchise, as a New School character. The franchise was originally created in 1933 by Charles Addams, with its most recent iteration taking on the form of Netflix’s Wednesday. However, I grew up in the 90s, so The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993) will always be my favourites!
Pink Octopus
This design was simply me playing around with colours and how to create layers in an underwater scene.
Face with flower
I love designs that mix styles. There’s this lovely visual vibration that occurs when you place two opposing feelings next to one another, so we have the face as a black and grey realistic portrait and these very strong neo-traditional and New School petals and leaves. This was just an experiment to play around with styles and colours.
Samurai Mask
This samurai mask is designed as a shield with placement on the chest, not for the faint of heart.
What am I doing with my life?
As I am fast approaching 40, as well as having my first child and having suddenly lost my mom and grandmother in the space of 5 years, I find myself more and more staring into empty space and existentially wondering just exactly what I am doing with my life, what are any of us doing here? These are the kind of thoughts that keeps me awake at 1 am, wondering about the 'big-ness' of the universe and the 'small-ness' of me.
